acts, even in that brutal and horrible period.
In this book, we trace the circumstances of the actual deportations;
the removal of these nations from the list of admitted
entities with the rewriting of history and geography to exclude
mention of their existence; the beginnings of their rehabilitation
twelve years later; the restoration of five of them to their
former homes; and the long-drawn-out and only partial rehabilitation
of the other three, ending with the struggle, still in
progress, for their right to their own ancestral territory.
